Running, an outstanding form of exercise, can be good for you mentally, physically, and EMOTIONALLY. A beginning runner should keep three things in mind: the warm-up session, the RUN TIME WORKOUT, and the cool-down period. Never start a run without first having warmed up through stretching exercises. Stretching before a run reduces muscle stiffness, decreases the possibility of injury, and INCREASES the heart rate. During the run itself, move at a steady and comfortable pace. Your breathing should be deep and rhythmic. Be careful that you don't try to overdo it at first. If you have been inactive for a long period of time, you can't expect to lose weight, INCREASE HEART AND LUNG CAPACITY, and TO FEEL BETTER OVERNIGHT. Finally, remember to cool down after a run. An adequate cool-down period allows time for the body to relax and TO NORMALIZE the heart rate.

Topic Sentence and Controlling Idea
The topic sentence is what happened in the paragraph. The controlling idea is how the author feels about the event described in the topic sentence. Even though the topic sentence does not describe the author's feelings, the topic sentence should not be too general. The topic sentence should include something about the main idea. See the examples below.
Verb Tenses
Verb tense tells if an action happened in the past, present, or future. The three MAIN tenses are past tense, present tense, and future tense. See the examples below.
These three categories have more specific parts to them. The ones you will be using are listed below. These are from Professor Bro's worksheets.
Past Verb Tense
Present Verb Tense
Future Verb Tense
If you still need help with verb tenses, I suggest that you watch the video below from Youtube.com. Here is an activity you can also use to learn the tenses and test your skills. The link for the game activity is here http://www.wisc-online.com/Objects/ViewObject.aspx?ID=ESL302. GOOD LUCK!
Summary Writing

The Writing Process
The writing process is used in everything that you write. From writing a paragraph, to writing an essay, the writing process must be used. There are three main parts to the writing process. These four parts are:
Prewriting
This step is where you decide what you want to say and how you want to say it. Decide who your audience is. This means you have to think about who is going to be reading your writing.
Drafting
This step is where you write down your ideas and organize them in order for your writing.
Revising/ Editing
This is the last step. In this step, you will re-read your writing to make sure that it makes sense and is understandable for other readers. You will also be editing your writing for spelling and grammar errors.
To help you get started in the writing process, read the poster below. Ask yourself the questions as you go through each step.

Writing Paragraphs
A Paragraph focuses on and develops one idea. A paragraph has three different parts to it. The three different parts are:
Topic Sentence
This part tells the reader the main idea of the paragraph. It shows what the entire paragraph is going to be about.
Support
This part explains and develops the main idea by giving examples and support for what was said in the topic sentence.
Conclusion
This part summarizes everything that was said in the paragraph.
